London-based Lebanese-Egyptian singer-songwriter Sarah Ali returns with “We Can ‘(t) Get It On,” a playful and empowering Dance R&B single that blends soulful melodies, hip-hop influences, and the nostalgic energy of early-2000s R&B.
Built around themes of self-worth, communication, and modern dating, the track transforms the frustrations of ghosting, mixed signals, and emotional uncertainty into an infectious declaration of confidence. Rather than romanticizing inconsistency, Sarah encourages listeners to recognize their value, set clearer standards, and stop chasing people who refuse to meet them halfway.
Born in Dublin, raised in Beirut, and now based in London, Sarah Ali brings a distinctly multicultural perspective to her music. Her sound draws from contemporary Western pop and R&B while retaining the emotional nuance and storytelling sensibility of her Arabic heritage.
The inspiration for We Can ‘(t) Get It On emerged during a writing session with British-Jamaican producer Anthony Marshall, with the playful confidence of Eve’s Who’s That Girl? serving as an early creative reference point. Sarah was also drawing from her own experience of leaving a situationship characterized by unanswered messages and emotional ambiguity. Conversations with friends soon revealed that the experience was far from unique.
Instead of turning the experience into another heartbreak record, Sarah chose to approach it from a position of self-assurance.
“Being left on read doesn’t define your worth. If someone communicates honestly, shows up consistently and acts with maturity, then maybe we can get it on. If not… we can’t get it on,” says Sarah Ali.
The result is a polished, feel-good record that pairs a danceable groove with a message about knowing when to walk away. Its combination of contemporary R&B, pop accessibility, and early-2000s nostalgia gives We Can ‘(t) Get It On both a familiar warmth and a distinctly modern perspective.
Sarah Ali has previously opened for internationally acclaimed artists John Legend and Amr Diab, while her work has received coverage from publications and platforms including L’Orient-Le Jour, L’Orient Today, Elle Arabia, MTV Lebanon, Haya Magazine, BURO Middle East, The Art Pulse, and Resident Advisor.
With We Can ‘(t) Get It On, Sarah Ali continues to establish herself as an artist capable of translating personal experiences into music that is culturally fluid, emotionally intelligent, and unapologetically fun.
“We Can ‘(t) Get It On” is available now on major digital streaming platforms.
