Genre-fluid singer, songwriter, and composer Skyy ZNO is emerging as a distinctive new voice in Afro-Fusion, drawing from a multicultural upbringing and an expansive musical palette to create a sound that moves freely across borders, languages, and genres.
Born in the United States and raised in the Dominican Republic, Skyy ZNO spent his formative years moving between cultures, absorbing a diverse range of musical influences that would eventually shape his artistic identity. That multicultural foundation remains central to his approach, allowing Afrobeats, Soul, Salsa, Dembow, and Reggae to coexist naturally within his music.
Music was also deeply embedded in his family history. His great-grandmother was a prolific pianist, while his wider family includes producers and artists. Among his relatives is Ab-Liva of The Clipse, further underscoring the creative lineage from which Skyy ZNO emerged.
His own musical journey began at just seven years old, when he recorded his first song for a school mathematics project. What started as a childhood experiment quickly developed into a serious artistic pursuit. At 14, he joined a music group, spending the next four years performing and developing the discipline, chemistry, and instincts that come from working on stage with other musicians.
At 18, Skyy ZNO embarked on his solo career, determined to build a sound that reflected his own experiences and influences. His music subsequently began gaining traction across the Caribbean and United States, mirroring the cultural duality at the centre of his identity.
That philosophy is captured in his mantra: “One world, one rhythm.”
