Qualia Releases “Magenta”A Song for In-Betweeners

Qualia shares “Magenta,” an experimental alt-R&B track that explores the space where things blur
together, where identity, perception, and emotion start to overlap. Inspired by the idea that magenta does
not exist on the visible light spectrum, but is instead created by the brain to bridge red and purple, the
song uses color as a metaphor for the human experience of living in-between.

Between past and future. Self-doubt and self-worth. Comfort and change. Driven by rhythmic basslines, bluesy chord progressions, and shimmering synth textures, “Magenta” blends organic and electronic elements into a sound that feels both grounded and surreal. The track moves from intimate, restrained verses into more expansive, emotionally charged moments, mirroring the feeling of trying to make sense of something that keeps
shifting.

“Magenta came from a simple argument, whether something looked more red or purple,” says
Qualia. “But it opened up a bigger realization: some things do not have a fixed answer. They exist in the
middle, and that does not make them any less real.” The release continues Qualia’s exploration of the
idea of Qualia itself, the notion that each person experiences the same stimulus differently.

This concept has gained traction through his cross-sensory videos on social media via @sensesofqualia, where
audiences are invited to compare how they associate sound with smell, taste, sight, and texture, highlighting the deeply personal nature of perception. To extend this idea beyond the screen.

Qualia recently debuted a Magenta Light + Sound Experience in New York City, an immersive, multi-sensory
installation combining sound, light, and guided reflection. The experience centers on the same idea at the
heart of the song: that perception is not something we just receive, but something we create. “Magenta” is
available now on all streaming platforms.

Qualia is the project of artist, producer, and sound designer Alec Joseph. Blending music, visual
storytelling, and immersive experiences, Qualia explores perception, identity, and the subjective nature of
reality. Through cross-sensory content and conceptual releases, the project invites audiences into a world
where sound can be seen, colors can be felt, and meaning is never fixed.
