Independent Afrobeats artist Halver has released his new single, “Hustler,” featuring celebrated Nigerian singer Duncan Mighty. Released through Guap Culture / Symphonic, the record brings together high-energy street-pop, live highlife instrumentation and candid storytelling centred on ambition, sacrifice and the realities of everyday survival.
Beyond its musical appeal, the collaboration represents a significant personal milestone for Halver. Having grown up in Port Harcourt, the artist always envisioned working with Duncan Mighty, widely recognised as the city’s “Port Harcourt 1st Son.” Determined to make the collaboration happen, Halver travelled from Lagos to Port Harcourt, undertaking considerable financial and personal sacrifices to secure the feature.
Reflecting on the experience, Halver shares:
“As a boy from Port Harcourt City, it was very important to me to have the ‘Port Harcourt 1st Son’ on my song. Traveling from Lagos down to Port Harcourt and pushing through everything wasn’t easy, but I knew it was worth every single sacrifice. The moment Duncan Mighty’s vocals hit the track, I knew every single hurdle had paid off.”
Produced by David Cloud, with mixing and mastering handled by MixGod and A&R coordination by Donald Ohaji, “Hustler” is built around driving percussion, soaring guitar riffs and an energetic production that draws from South-South highlife traditions and contemporary Afrobeats. Lyrically, the song confronts the pressures of making a living, the realities of betrayal and the relentless pursuit of greater success.
Lines such as “You say make I show you how to fish / Now you don dey chop my fish” capture the frustrations of misplaced trust, while “What the fuck is a million / Me I want a billion” reflects the ambition and determination driving the song’s central character. Duncan Mighty’s soulful and unmistakable delivery adds another dimension to the record, bridging his established highlife influences with Halver’s contemporary street-pop approach.
At its heart, “Hustler” carries a message of perseverance and hope, speaking to individuals navigating difficult circumstances in pursuit of their aspirations. For Halver, the record is also a reminder that the sacrifices made along the way should not overshadow the possibility of eventual success.
“No matter how tough the journey gets, there must be something for the hustler,” Halver shares. “Everyone deserves to win, and I hope this song serves as a reminder that your own breakthrough is coming.”
The release marks the beginning of a wider promotional campaign, with an official music video, behind-the-scenes footage documenting the making of the record and a press tour across radio and digital media scheduled as part of the rollout.
