Providence-based singer-songwriter Sydney Sharp releases “Run,” the fifth single from her forthcoming album Resonate. The Afrobeat-inspired R&B track examines the emotional tension that can emerge when vulnerability and intimacy cause a partner to pull away.
Written from the perspective of a frustrating yet deeply meaningful romantic relationship, “Run” captures the repetitive push and pull that can accompany the fear of emotional closeness. Its upbeat production moves between whimsical and powerful Afrobeat textures, creating a sense of forward motion beneath Sharp’s soulful vocal delivery.
Lyrically, Sharp approaches the cycle with precision, giving weight to each word while gradually moving the song toward a more hopeful conclusion. The outro suggests that breaking the pattern may require both partners to become present, still, and willing to reconnect.
“Run” was created in collaboration with Alex Enamorado, a musician, engineer, and producer who contributed to the track’s layered sonic architecture using an Akai MPC. Enamorado has worked with Grammy-nominated artists including Butch Tavares and platinum and gold-selling producers such as Phil Greene.
His collaboration with Sharp extends across several songs on Resonate, including “Ghost in My Bed,” “PeaceMan,” “Don’t Pick Me,” and “Talk to Me.”
Sharp’s musical journey began with piano recitals and choir performances in kindergarten before developing into classical piano and pop singer-songwriter work. Her recent creative evolution has led her toward Afrobeat-inspired R&B, culminating in Resonate, an album that reflects a new chapter in her artistic identity.
Her professional life as a veterinarian and college professor also informs the empathy and steadiness that underpin her songwriting and vocal approach.
