Transcending worlds and genres, T3agray’s “JUNGLE PUNK” at times feels like hurtling
through space in a very lit rocketship. The project contains a psychedelic mix of y2k Nigerian
pop, fuji, 80s rock, emo rap, alte music and a few novel sounds that blur the lines between them.
It also features appearances from budding Nigerian underground sensations Luwa.MP4, Kam K
and Julrity.
T3agray proves to be more than capable of steering this fast-moving spaceship
towards a startlingly brilliant conclusion, morphing and shapeshifting into a different kind of
animal on each new track.
With the exception of “Fighter” (produced by Nigerian underground artist Ravington), all songs
on the project are produced by Chaz, T3agray’s long-time partner in crime. The bond between an
artist and their favorite producer is truly special, and on “JUNGLE PUNK” these two achieve a
creative synergy that feels almost divinely orchestrated. Standout tracks include punk rock rager
“Tribal Side”, “Legend” feat. Luwa.Mp4, and “Ready Player 1” feat. Julrity, which is
reminiscent of early 2000s Nigerian pop.
At its core, JUNGLE PUNK represents and celebrates identities that don’t always follow
convention, but rather are birthed through the opposition of it. Speaking on his latest body of
work, T3agray says: “ ‘JUNGLE PUNK’ is the sound of me finding home at the intersection of
two worlds….this project is a rebellion against labels, a celebration of being an amalgamation of
experiences where no piece is more valid than the other.”
Outside the walls of JUNGLE PUNK, T3agray continues to expand his sonic rebellion with
tracks like “Arsenal” featuring Nigeria’s breakout rap phenom Zaylevelten, further proving his
ability to move fluidly between sub-genres in the underground scene. Whether he’s screaming
through distortion or floating over Afro-punk rhythms, T3agray stands as one of the few artists
daring enough to merge worlds without losing himself in the noise. JUNGLE PUNK isn’t just a
project— it’s a battle cry from one of the horsemen of the new apocalypse, tearing down the old
order and ushering in a sound that refuses to be contained.
