ASHIDAPO CHANNELS NOSTALGIA AND ENERGY IN NEW SINGLE ‘GOBE’

Fowowe Oyedapo David, better known as Ashidapo, is keeping the momentum rolling. After the success of his Take Ova EP (over 5 million streams across platforms) and the fiery energy of July’s “Girl On Fya” featuring Olamide (which peaked at No. 22 on Apple Music NG) and peaked on top 20 global shazam for four weeks. Ashidapo returns with a track that proves his unique ability to connect sound and culture.

In Nigerian slang, “gobe” traditionally signals trouble. but Ashidapo flips the meaning into something irresistible: joy, excitement, and the spark of movement.

A snippet of Gobe teased on TikTok has already accumulated over 14,000 user videos, proving the song’s immediate viral pull. Built around a playful sample of Wande Coal’s “Baby Hello” and produced by Maleek Berry, Gobe pulses with nostalgia while sounding undeniably fresh.

With bouncy percussion, catchy adlibs, and sing-along hooks, the song is tailor-made for dance floors and street corners alike. Lyrics like “Omo to wo fila yen kilo gbe” and “Omolope bi ti Baptista” mix humor and swagger with local flavour, while nods to Saint-Tropez and Jupiter add global flair to a homegrown sound.

“Wande Coal is a legend,” Ashidapo says. “His music had soul, pop, fun, something for everyone. When I heard ‘Baby Hello,’ I could feel him having fun sliding through the beat. That’s exactly the vibe I wanted to bring back.”

Released via his independent imprint Ova Music, Gobe marks the next chapter for Ashidapo as he continues to establish himself as one of Afropop’s most exciting voices.
