Rose Black Pays Tribute to Ancestral Heritage and Family Legacy on New Live Session “NGEDA”

Cameroonian artist Rose Black unveils “NGEDA (Live Session),” an intimate and deeply personal musical tribute to memory, family heritage, and the enduring connection between generations.

Sung in Bassa’a, her ancestral Cameroonian language, the song is dedicated to her late grandfather, Jean Henri MAHOP. Originally conceived as a prayer and personal letter to him, “NGEDA” transforms Rose Black’s experience of love, loss, and remembrance into a heartfelt musical expression.

At its core, the record explores themes of resilience, spirituality, ancestral identity, and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. By choosing to perform in Bassa’a, Rose Black embraces her linguistic roots while creating a deeply personal connection to the traditions and identity that shaped her.

One of the song’s most poignant elements is the inclusion of her father’s actual voice at the beginning of the recording. His opening contribution introduces an intimate dimension of family lineage, blessing, and generational continuity, reinforcing the emotional significance behind the tribute.

With “NGEDA (Live Session),” Rose Black offers more than a musical dedication. She creates a moment of reflection on the relationships, memories, and cultural legacies that continue to shape who we are, even in the absence of those who came before us.

“NGEDA (Live Session)” is a heartfelt celebration of family, heritage, and the connections that transcend generations.
