Cherie D’Avino Confronts Domestic Abuse and Celebrates Resilience on New Single “Hell’s Kitchen”

British-Italian singer-songwriter Cherie D’Avino returns with “Hell’s Kitchen,” a dark, cinematic soul single that weaves together jazz, classical, and hip-hop influences into a deeply moving narrative of survival, resilience, and healing. Emotionally raw and sonically expansive, the release amplifies the voices of women and children affected by domestic abuse while offering a message of hope and strength.

Written from the perspective of a child witnessing violence within the home, Hell’s Kitchen explores the lasting emotional impact of domestic abuse and the courage required to break cycles of generational trauma. The song unfolds through haunting storytelling before building into a powerful cinematic crescendo, anchored by its defiant refrain: “I’m not gonna let you break us.”

Originally conceived while living in New York City, Cherie drew inspiration from a survivor’s story she encountered in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Moved by the resilience of women and children navigating unimaginable circumstances, she began writing what would evolve into a collective anthem for survivors.

I had to sing this song many times before I could get through it without choking,” says Cherie D’Avino. “Every word carries weight, not just for one person, but for so many stories I’ve heard throughout my life.

Musically, Hell’s Kitchen reflects Cherie’s signature genre-defying approach, blending cinematic soul with elements of jazz, classical composition, and atmospheric hip-hop production. The result is an immersive soundscape that is both intimate and emotionally charged, allowing the song’s powerful narrative to take center stage.

The single was originally produced by Max Herman before being completely reimagined by producer Jack Craggs, with final mixing and mastering handled by John Elliott at Loft Studios in Newcastle.

Released amid growing global conversations surrounding domestic abuse, Hell’s Kitchen also serves a broader charitable mission. Cherie is partnering with Refuge, the UK’s leading domestic abuse charity, to raise awareness and support for survivors. Proceeds from every iTunes purchase of the single will be donated directly to the organization, alongside a dedicated fundraising campaign encouraging listeners to contribute to women and children affected by domestic violence.

I’ve supported small women’s refuges quietly for years,” Cherie explains. “This time I wanted to create something anthemic—a piece of music that helps people feel seen while also giving back in a tangible way.

Known for placing women’s stories at the heart of her songwriting, Cherie D’Avino continues to establish herself as an artist whose work extends beyond music, using cinematic storytelling to spark empathy, inspire conversation, and advocate for meaningful social change.

“Hell’s Kitchen” is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
