Interview:KCP2 is the Afropop act you need to know.

Kcp2 is a talented Afropop singer on the rise. His passion for music has seen him self-invest going against all odds to fulfil his lifelong dream of becoming a renowned music star. Although the Pan African music signee is not where he envisages, he yet paces on with unyielding resilience and in this interview, he talks about his journey so far amidst other discuss.

Can we get to know you?

Originally my names was “Kasarachi Festus Agu”, but due to asylum procedures in Germany I changed my name to “Festus Denis” Aka KCP2.. I’m from imo state but was born in Port Harcourt, I grew up in lagos( Ojo badagry to be precise) I went to apex academy in Ojo alaba, then further to Nnamdi azikiwe University.  I dropped out to embark on a journey to Europe by land in 2013. Made it to Germany in the year 2014.

When did music start for you?

I started music officially in 2018, with a single like Accolade, lie lie Muhammed, which went viral at that time.. But before then I’ve made a couple of hit songs in my hood that put me at the top in 2009.

As a kid music started for me as a joke, where I find myself singing to tell the neighbors what is happening in our house, why my dad flogged me and so on.

Can you take us through your academic and family background?

I’m from a family of seven. Three boys, four girls. I’m the fifth one.

Who are your biggest inspirations? Musical influences?

Growing up I loved Micheal Jackson, and then I wished to be as great as he is… Later on I became a big fan of 50 cent. That’s why my style has a touch of hip and pop.

Currently, I don’t listen to a particular art, I listen randomly because I don’t want to sound or be influenced by anybody.

Are there challenges you face as a rising star?

The challenges I face as a rising super megastar, especially in this part of the world, is to find the right people to work with.

What is it that you feel stands you out from the rest of the current Artistes right now?

What I feel that stands me out is that I am versatile, can switch languages, and I’ve had more experience in life due to my journey than the rest.. I can sing or talk about anything or everything.

What’s your process? How do you go about creating a song?

Initially, it was really challenging finding yourself in a country where everyone believes in working, at first I traveled hours to find a studio where to record, it was really frustrating and challenging traveling miles and hitting the studio with tiredness. At some point I had to build a home studio, and learnt online how to record myself.

What kind of song do you do?

I’m more of an Afropop art, but I can jump on any beat.

What’s your current project and plans for the rest of the year?

I’m currently working on another song to follow up Kpekus. Like we releasing hits back to back.

What do you enjoy the most about being an artist and creative?

I enjoy everything about music, this is not just a talent or gift. I’m destined to do this. Although growing up everyone thought I would be a footballer. But here we are.
