GB Brings Afrobeats Energy and Playful Romance to New Single “Shakara” Featuring Tumi

Nigerian singer and songwriter GB continues to develop his Afro-fusion sound with “Shakara,” a vibrant collaboration featuring Tumi, taken from his debut project, They See Me Now.

Rooted in Afrobeats and enriched by contemporary melodic influences, “Shakara” brings together lively rhythmic arrangements, engaging vocals and a playful approach to romantic expression. The track draws inspiration from the familiar Nigerian expression Shakara, commonly associated with showing off, playful stubbornness or playing hard to get, using its cultural meaning as the foundation for a flirtatious musical exchange.

GB delivers an accessible, dance-oriented performance, while Tumi’s contribution adds another dimension to the record. Together, the artists create a conversational dynamic that captures the teasing nature of romantic attraction while maintaining an infectious groove suited to both casual listening and the dancefloor.

The collaboration also reflects the broader musical direction of They See Me Now, a debut project exploring themes of ambition, relationships and personal growth. Across the project, GB moves between Afrobeats, Amapiano influences and melodic R&B elements, drawing from his Nigerian heritage while incorporating contemporary sounds that connect with an international audience.

Beyond its musical appeal, “Shakara” has also secured international playlist recognition, earning a placement on Afro Latin Tropical Beats, curated by Swiss DAB+ radio station La Radio du bord de l’eau. The addition provides another opportunity for the artist’s music to reach audiences beyond the UK and Nigeria as he continues to expand his international presence.

With “Shakara,” GB further establishes the creative direction behind They See Me Now, bringing together West African musical influences, contemporary Afro-fusion and relatable storytelling.
