Rising Kenyan songstress, Maya Amolo, continues her assent to the top of the African music scene with her brand new album titled “The Sweetest Time”. Greeted by high praise and rave reviews, Maya’s sophomore album gives a reflective look at love’s emotional journey. This project is filled with melodies, vocals and strong themes from love to betrayal and healing.
Maya Amolo’s music explores life‘s intricacies through the lens of alternative R&B with afro-pop sensibilities. Her sugary vocals and soft harmonies have amassed her a loyal global listenership and the homegrown support of East Africa‘s creative community.
On “The Sweetest Time”, Maya takes a step away from conventional expressions of sweetness, and moves to explore all the different dimensions: bitter sweetness, sweet revenge, decadence, and more. Each track captures a distinct chapter in this cycle, offering a raw, honest reflection of love in all its beauty and complexity. It is a peek into her mind palace, and a manifestation of all her thoughts, flavours and influences; a soundtrack for anyone who’s ever fallen, been broken, and found their way back to themselves.
Since she debuted with the scenic “I Know”, in 2020, Maya Amolo has elevated her even-keeled explorations of the dynamics of love, self-sabotage and fidelity into something profoundly transformative, regularly colouring traditional R&B patterns with deeply resonant grooves inspired by her life and experiences in Nairobi. Her brand new project, “The Sweetest Time”, traces the full arc of love’s emotional journey — from the heady rush of infatuation and the warmth of deep connection, to the comfort of stability, the sting of betrayal, and ultimately, the strength found in healing.
Maya Amolo’s exploits as a singer-songwriter and producer now see her explore life‘s intricacies through the lens of alternative R&B with afro-pop sensibilities. She has established herself as one to watch having been covered by tastemaker platforms including NPR, The Native Mag, Okay Africa, Harmattan Rain and TANGAZA Magazine as well as having been selected as Spotify Africa’s inaugural Fresh Finds artist in March, 2022. In 2023 she partook in Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS’ first ever writing camp in Africa, Tantalizers Sessions. She was also named Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next artist in November, 2023.
Her new project, “The Sweetest Time” features collaborations from massive talents like Ywaya Tajiri, Nigerian alté singer, AYLØ, Albeezy and Tai Dai.
