Singer-songwriter Akili has officially released”Desaparecida,” from his upcoming sophomore album, Tobago Nights.

Originally conceived during a collaborative college writing session with friend and colleague Eric
Turner, the track began as a funk-pop R&B song titled “My Baby’s Gone.” Inspired by Turner’s
poignant lyric, “Time was our enemy,” Akili performed the original version live for years before
completely reimagining it to serve as an emotional cornerstone of his upcoming album.

While the early version focused on a fading romance, “Desaparecida” reframes those universal
themes of loss and longing into a profound exploration of artistic identity. Written from the artist’s
perspective, the track captures the intoxication of falling in love with a creative spark—and the
subsequent desperation when that magic slips away.

Desaparecida” is out now and ready to elevate playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube
Music. Promotional assets, including high-resolution press photography and official album
artwork, are available for media use. Journalists, editors, and playlist curators can access these
materials via the Electronic Press Kit (EPK) hosted on Google Drive.
