Bristol soul singer and songwriter Scarlett Fagan returns with “Arise,” the soulful B-side to her new 7″ vinyl release “Awaken” b/w “Arise,” produced by New York underground production heavyweight Tom Emerald, aka Endemic.
Released through Unique Soul Records, the two-track 7″ brings together Fagan’s soulful vocal style and Emerald’s break-driven production, combining horn and organ textures with a rhythmic foundation rooted in classic soul and contemporary hip-hop. The release will be distributed globally by Fat Beats, with One Nation handling UK distribution.
“Arise” finds Fagan reflecting on resilience and perseverance, pairing her expressive vocal range with Emerald’s melodic production. The track forms the more reflective counterpart to “Awaken,” while maintaining the soulful character that defines the release.
Fagan’s musical identity has been shaped by influences including Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Motown, old soul, and reggae, influences that have informed her work across both group and solo projects. She previously fronted Bristol band The Hawkmen, whose music appeared on two Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Club compilations and whose 12″ vinyl singles were released through European labels.
In 2022, Fagan released her debut solo album, Conscious, through Canvas Entertainment. The ten-track soul, jazz, and R&B project featured songs including “Booze & Coffee,” “Sugar,” “Diva,” and “Security.” She has also sold out her debut solo show at Green Note in Camden, been named Richer Unsigned Artist of the Week, and performed at Soul in the City at The Louisiana in Bristol.
For Emerald, whose production credits include work with Wu-Tang Clan affiliates, Boot Camp Clik, Roc Marciano, Tragedy Khadafi, Planet Asia, and Ruste Juxx, the collaboration with Fagan brings his break-oriented production sensibilities into a distinctly soulful setting.
“Arise” is available now through Unique Soul Records, with the full “Awaken” b/w “Arise” 7″ vinyl release scheduled for September 18. The record will be distributed globally by Fat Beats and in the UK by One Nation.
