The Best of the Very Best of New Music Friday

Thank God it’s another Friday Upper People! Thank goodness we made it through the brawl and skirmish of the week. E no easy, and the least we deserve is great music to cool the tension.

This week’s list of The Best of the Very Best of New Music Friday promises to lift your spirits, with a dynamic selection of great music from talented artists across Africa.

Enjoy.

Cry Baby – Tolani

Multi-faceted and creative are words that best fit Tolani. The singer displays her genius in the emotionally ridden ‘Cry Baby’. The beautifully written song was produced by Oddio, and published under license to Dreamcatcher Music.

Found Your Way – Micasa

The Legendary South African Music group, Micasa are a timeless gem and they prove this much is true with the richly nuanced ‘Found Our Way’. The song is packed in depth whilst simultaneously possessing an irresistible rhythm for a perfect weekend groove.

Lately – Maleek Berry, Ruger

Full circle moment as Maleek Berry and Ruger team up for the sensational ‘Lately’. The single produced by Berry himself is further complimented by Ruger’s stellar verse. Preceding the song’s release, Ruger shared a screenshot of a Dm he sent to Maleek Berry way back in 2018, vying for a shot at being signed to the older singer’s label. Although things didn’t work out in favor of Ruger at the time, the recent collaboration however makes the release a beautiful conviction that dreams do come true.

Time Traveller – Wizard Chan

Wizard Chan has been on an impressive run in 2024. He adds to his amazing discography with the folky ‘Time Traveller’. Because this writer is short of words to describe the brilliance that justifies, let’s just say this is a beautiful record.

Amazing Grace – Reekado Banks, Yinka Bernie

Ace singer Reekado Banks is in a reflective mode in the somber single ‘Amazing Grace’. The ethereal sonics of ‘Amazing Grace is a by-product of the creative synergy that exists between music producer, Yinka Bernie and Banks. The single is one of the soundtracks to the Nicholas Manuel Pino-directed 2024 film ‘Bosco’.
