In the ever-evolving landscape of Nigerian music, collaborations often serve as the lifeblood that keeps the industry dynamic and fresh. The excitement was evident when Show Dem Camp (SDC) announced their upcoming album, No Love in Lagos, featuring soulful duo The Cavemen and David Nsikak at Palmwine Music Festival in December last year.
Show Dem Camp, the duo of Wale Davies (Tec) and Olumide Ayeni (Ghost), are known for their profound lyricism and smooth rap delivery. They have long been celebrated for their ability to capture the essence of Nigerian life, particularly highlighted in their Palmwine Music series, which has significantly impacted the alté and highlife scenes in Nigeria.
On the other hand, The Cavemen, the duo of brothers Kingsley and Benjamin Okorie, have carved a niche for themselves with their unique blend of highlife and contemporary sounds. Their music takes listeners back to the golden era of highlife while infusing modern elements that make it relevant for today’s audience.
On paper, it was clear there was going to be a great synergy between both groups, and in 2020 we had a taste of that with Nsikak David’s ‘Dance For Me‘

The album title, No Love in Lagos, is as witty as it is intriguing. Lagos, often dubbed the city that never sleeps, is a bustling metropolis where pursuing success often takes precedence over personal connections. Yet, within this chaos, are pockets of deep, meaningful interactions that defy the city’s harsh exterior. Through their music, SDC and The Cavemen aim to explore the layers of Lagos, revealing the stories of love, heartbreak, resilience, and hope.
The first two singles from the album: No Love in Lagos and Johni have further highlighted the connection between both groups with SDC’s rap verses and The Cavemen’s melodic harmonies giving a feeling that is both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
For music enthusiasts, the combination of Show Dem Camp and The Cavemen is exactly what we needed. As we eagerly await the full release of No Love in Lagos, expect nothing but the best from both groups.
While Asake’s Lungu Boy might grab all the headlines on the 9th of August, real ones know No Love in Lagos is one that shouldn’t be ignored.
