Written by : Nana Kojo

In the corners of Accra, Ghana famed to be the home of highlife/palm wine music, dwells a handful of young but underlooked musical talents capable of proving their sonic mettle to the global music audience.

Ghana, a country blessed with highlife music and an array of indigenous sounds has over the years evolved musically to blend in Western musical influences such as R&B, pop, and Jazz music.

This present generation of artists from Ghana moves with the sonic tide, yet debunking the conventional and breaking sonic boundaries.

Check out these seven fresh talents from Ghana worthy of reckoning.

Herman Suede:

Herman Suede’s versatility is perhaps his biggest attribute. His skills have made him likable among his peers and fans alike. Whether Afrobeats, pop, or hip-hop, Herman always brings his A-Game. With songs like ‘Naa Kwarley’, ‘One by One’, and ‘Kumabaya’ to his name, the future looks bright for the young star.

Baaba J

With two projects already under her belt, Baaba J is a front-runner for Afro-indie music in Ghana. Her relatability through her writing and melodies makes it connect to her on a personal level, which has allowed her to build a community for herself.

Super Jazz Club

Fresh off touring Europe and an incoming album, SuperJazzClub is a key part of Ghana’s alternative music scene. Blending pop, rock, and other sounds, SJC built a community of listeners, followers, and fans with their craft making them an exciting collective to look out for.

Ess Thee Legend

Nana Yaw Ofori Attah ( 1000)

Finding a balance between making quality music and spreading the message of Christ something that one would argue comes easy to Nana Yaw Ofori Attah (Oneman1000) a contemporary gospel artist. Putting together diverse sounds like Pop, Afrobeats, Highlife, and Amapiano with the message of salvation has seen 1000’s music transcend the church into uncharted territories for a gospel artist making him one of the most exciting rising stars from the country.
